Pregnancy Massage

Massage during pregnancy not only feels good, it has many therapeutic benefits for both mum and baby. Touch helps nurture mum as her body is changed, challenged and stressed in many ways. It can also give great relief from the normal discomforts associated with pregnancy such back ache, stiff neck, leg cramps, headache and sinus congestion relief, oedema and swollen ankles and feet.

At BodyMatters all pregnancy massages are carried out by qualified pregnancy masseuses on a tailor-made pregnancy massage table. This special table has three holes - one for the belly and two for the breasts – allowing mum to lie face down for the first time in possibly months. The holes have a ‘sling’ type support cloth for the ‘bump’.

ELIZABETH LARGE BSc MICHT
Elizabeth has a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Bodywork from the University of Westminster. She combines these skills with over 7 years experience practising as a Holistic Therapist with Diplomas in Body Massage, Counselling, Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Nutrition.

Elizabeth draws on her wide range of massage skills to create a uniquely tailored treatment believing that each person requires an individual approach to address their area of concern. Throughout the massage she carefully tunes into the responses of the client’s body, sensing areas of tension and release to modify and adapt the treatment to meet the client’s needs.

Her style of bodywork places emphasis on facilitating the client’s exploration of themselves through their body use. The path of the treatment is based on postural and range of motion assessments, followed by manual techniques to increase fluidity of movement and alleviate discomfort. The client may choose the level of involvement in the session, by just enjoying the hands on experience, or requesting more active solutions.

Elizabeth is a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists. She practises meditation and Qigong as part of her on-going spiritual development.

Fiona HurlockZELI ROCHA
Zeli Rocha graduated as a holistic therapist from leading school ‘Essentials for Health’ in London 2005, followed by further intensive courses in LaStone Therapy, pregnancy, acupressure and deep tissue. Zeli works in both private and corporate practices.

Client’s are assessed on an individual basis ensuring the treatment is specific to each person, the objective being to determine and address the most pressing needs effectively whilst maintaining a clear perspective and strategy on the more chronic aspects. Some treatments you may need to relax, while others require deeper, more intense work. Helping you to know your own body and what it needs is the ultimate goal of a truly effective therapeutic relationship.

Zeli focuses on all aspects of complementary therapy along with developing new skills and techniques to provide her clients with the most effective treatment and a great experience.

Mahala GaleMAHALA GALE Dip. (NLSSM) MCThA BA(Hons)Dance
Mahala has been dancing since the age of two and holds a Performing Arts degree. She stumbled into the world of sports massage whilst trying to gain a greater understanding of the reasons she and her friends were experiencing injuries.

Mahala’s many years of dance has given her a unique understanding of the body; in particular how it moves, how we hold ourselves and how that might cause pain. She has a fascination with the anatomy and physiology of the body and appreciates the fact that every ‘body’ is different.

Whilst her emphasis during treatment is on relaxation and flow with slow strokes, Mahala also incorporates techniques of Swedish, Thai and Deep Tissue to create her Absolute Bliss Massage. The structure and pressure of these massages can be adapted to your needs, depending on how you’re feeling on the day.

Through her dance and sports massage training she has a wide knowledge of stretching techniques and exercises to give professional advice to clients avoid recurring stress or injury. Mahala has also done further specialised training in pregnancy massage and facial techniques including stress releasing therapy for well-being and improved appearance.

Mahala is a full member of the Complementary Therapists Association.
